Eight NC Artists Among 30 Selected for IBMA's 2017 Bluegrass Ramble

More than 160 bands from around the world applied to be part of the International Bluegrass Music Association's (IBMA) 2017 Bluegrass Ramble, and of the 30 selected for official showcase slots this year, eight are from and/or are based in North Carolina:

The complete list of artists were selected by the IBMA Showcase Selection Committee as Bluegrass Ramble Showcase artists: Jonathan Byrd; Cane Mill Road; Cathy Fink & Marcy Marxer; Cup O’Joe (Northern Ireland); Deer Creek Boys (banjo picker Andy Lowe is from NC); Flats and Sharps (Cornwall, England); Fireside Collective; Forlorn Strangers; FY5; Caroline Gallagher; Sam Gleaves; Hank, Pattie & The Current; High Fidelity; Jeff Brown & Still Lonesome (banjo picker MItch Walker is from NC); The Lonely Heartstring Band; Mile Twelve (banjo picker BB Bowness is originally from New Zealand); Molsky’s Mountain Drifters; Mr. Sun; NewTown; The Po’ Ramblin’ Boys; The Price Sisters; Quiles & Cloud; The Railsplitters; Richie and Rosie; Salt and Light the Moore Family Band; The Savage Hearts; Sheriff Scott and the Deputies; The Slocan Ramblers (Canada); The Small Glories (Canada); and Travers Chandler and Avery County.

These artists were selected with the goal of presenting the broad spectrum of styles, regions, and personalities who represent bluegrass today. Each act will perform at least two times over the course of the three-night Bluegrass Ramble event, at one of five downtown Raleigh clubs plus the Raleigh Convention Center, giving industry representatives and music fans multiple opportunities to hear as much music as possible.

Access to Bluegrass Ramble shows are complimentary with an IBMA Business Conference registration. Fans not attending the conference may purchase a full access wristband to all Ramble venues for $75.00 or a single-day wristband for $30.00 via ibma.org.  Members of the IBMA receive a discount on regular registration fees.

The Bluegrass Ramble will once again feature the selected bands at six venues throughout downtown Raleighduring IBMA’s World of Bluegrass 2017 event, September 26-30:

IBMA’s World of Bluegrass, whose principal sponsor is Chiesi, USA, is a five-day annual bluegrass music homecoming and convention, consisting of four parts: the IBMA Business Conference, September 26 – 28; the 28th Annual International Bluegrass Music Awards, scheduled for Thursday evening, September 28; PNC presents Wide Open Bluegrass, September 29-30 and the Bluegrass Ramble, an innovative series of showcases, taking place September 26-28 in downtown Raleigh and at the Raleigh Convention Center.

IBMA – the International Bluegrass Music Association – is the professional trade organization for the global bluegrass music community. The organization’s six-year stay in Raleigh is the result of a partnership with The Greater Raleigh Convention and Visitors Bureau; the Raleigh Convention Center; PineCone—The Piedmont Council of Traditional Music; the City of Raleigh and a local organizing committee.
